- LBT 2586J Quick Release Assault Panel Set Review by Chris on 12/4/2014
Knowing the LBT (London Bridge Trading) brand and having read plenty of positive reviews & comments about their products, I had yet to actually own any of their gear. So when I was asked to look at this system quite some time ago I started asking around what people thought etc. Everybody gave this a big thumb’s up across the board (taking into account its limitations). What I was sent was the 6094A SLICK plate carrier, the Q.R.A.P (Quick Release Assault Panel) and insulated hydration bladder.
NOTE: You find all our pictures we took for the review here: http://www.airsoft-military-news.com/review-lbt-2586j-quick-release-assault-panel-set - so some of the written words maybe make more sense to you. Enjoy reading!
6094A SLICK PLATE CARRIER:
One of the things I love about LBT gear is the ‘provenance’ of that particular pouch etc. Now as I understand this, the PC I have been running is a GEN2 due to its production date in 2013. I understand that there is a GEN1 and they have small variations but having never seen or used a GEN1 I cannot do any comparisons.
You have two front pockets/pouches/sleeves which comprise of the ‘Top’ pouch being a ‘Quick access admin pouch’ with elasticated retention points inside. And the lower, one (of similar size to the top one) having a Velcro lining for inserts or attaching / securing other items.
It’s a very lightweight and low profile set up overall. The sides are made from industrial strength elastic and have not frayed compared to some of the more recent elastic / cordura weaves. It is made out of 500D with an un-loaded weight of 1.5lbs. The shoulder straps were simple but pleasant and by no means uncomfortable to run for prolonged periods. If you require the need for shoulder pads then these would need to be obtained separately.
You get the standard Velcro panel for identification tags and patches as well as the routing points (both left & right) for communications / hydration.
Q.R.A.P – Quick Release Assault Panel
Now I have to be honest and say this 500D pouch did not make me get excited…sorry. That much Velcro in a pouch just made me get a nervous spasm in my left eye. However after lots of time and use I did get to like it. I was swapping out the two different calibre sized inserts very quickly and the Velcro does hold the magazine inserts very securely.
What we have here is the ‘Snap on Female Repair Buckle’ with some webbing and a ‘Tactical Toggle’ which the rig attaches to the SLICK. The hardware is from ‘Duraflex’ renowned in the military for its buckles & fasteners with most of their product line being ‘BERRY’ compliant. So you get some attachment points straight away.
You will see three different magazines in the various pictures on this review, that’s how adaptable the speed draw inserts were. As you can see the magazines are secured with the shockcord / pull tab solution but they have also included a snap fastener for very quick magazine release.
It is a very low profile rig carrying magazines front middle and communications in left & right pouches. The use of a 2×14 modular attachment points does allow a small increase in real estate but not huge amounts and any increase will affect the slim profile of the panel.
The Q.R.A.P waist band was my only other initial gripe with the set up. It would have been good to have had some form of ‘loop’ mounted on the back plate panel to thread the waist strap through. However there was never any rubbing or sore points on the lower back & sides after being used.
INSULATED HYDRATION BLADDER POUCH
Made out of the 500D that is running through this set up the hydration pouch can carry up to a 2litre bladder and is lined with NASA grade reflective insulation what keeps cold in and heat out. The pouch is available in different sizes so you can choose between them to carry as much water you need for your mission. But for the 6094A SLICK, the 2litre version has the perfect size to fit on the back plate.
Overall I am pleased that I spent more time running this than normal. It did grow on me and any questioning observations I had were all laid to rest. It is an excellent lightweight, low-profile, minimalist / EOC (essentials only carry) plate carrier, but once combined with the Q.R.A.P it starts to become something more heavyweight.
